My Number 1 Interview Tip? HAVE FUN!

When clients are heading into an interview, they often ask me for any last-minute advice. My number one tip? 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐅𝐔𝐍!

If you’re intentional about having fun going into the interview, everything is lighter. You’ll smile more, both you and the interviewer will be more comfortable, and things tend to flow. You’ll be able to approach the process and their questions with more curiosity and openness, which can calm the nervous system and add even more flow.

How to have more fun? A few suggestions:

🌬️ Nervousness is just excitement without breathing. Take some deep breaths, or better yet, practice box breathing 10 mins before your interview starts. No last-minute prep is going to make a difference. Get grounded and centered before hopping into that Zoom room.

😄 SMILE! Yes, I’ve had to tell multiple clients to remember to smile. If it’s a challenge for you to turn that frown upside down, watch some funny cat videos, have a tickle fight with your kid or partner, or do something else lighthearted before your interview to get you in a better headspace.

👯‍♀️ Practice, practice, practice. Practice with a friend, a coach, your doggo, I don’t care - just get the reps in with someone you feel safe with. The more you interview, the easier it will be and the more fun you’ll have. Try to do this in community (like my client Slack group!). Everything is better with a buddy.

Good luck - and remember to have fun out there, even if you're eyes get super squinty like mine when you're having a good time 😉
