Why You Should Interview Every Quarter
One of the best bosses Iโve ever had advised me to interview once a quarter, even if I felt content with my current job.
Seems like bizarre advice to get from ๐บ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ ๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ด๐ด, right?!
When you look closer at the likely outcomes, it makes perfect sense. Iโll be going over the 3 most common scenarios in more depth this week, but here is the tl;dr:
You interview and confirm that you love where youโre at, so much so that you want to double down on your role. You get more invested, you become more assertive with getting the resources you need, and you have more gratitude for your team and org mission.
You interview and realize that youโre not qualified or simply didnโt interview well because youโre out of practice. Youโve started to fall behind with certain skills needed for your industry or role. You recognize that itโs time to level up and start advocating for training or resources to keep you at the top of your game.
You interview and see that the grass ๐ช๐ด indeed greener on the other side. Perhaps youโre more aligned with the other orgโs culture, they pay wayyy better, they have more empathetic leadership, or this new role is simply a better fit for your strengths and long-term goals.
The reframe here is that yes, interviewing is a strategy for getting a different job, ๐๐๐, it is often also an opportunity to learn, grow, and level up. Embrace all of the options, and benefit from all of the outcomes.
