How to pick a Career Coach

Are you considering working with a Career Coach? Here are a few pro-tips to make sure you find the best fit:

🔸VIBE CHECK: Interview several to find the right match - most coaches offer a free consultation or “chemistry call” before any money is exchanged

🔸ALIGNMENT: Make sure their focus matches your needs. Do they have experience working in or with folks from your industry? What about the type of role you’re seeking? (Ex: Outdoor Industry + seeking Director-level Marketing roles)

🔸STREET CRED: Vet their credentials (hint: are they ICF certified?) Do they have strong testimonials to match?

🔸INVESTMENT: Coaching programs and costs are super diverse (packages, monthly retainers, cost-per-session, etc.) Can you see the positive ROI in their approach and methodology?

🔸OUTCOMES: If you decide to collaborate with a coach, make sure you are aligned on outcomes. Do they offer no-cost ongoing support if you don’t land a job right away?

And at the end of the day - trust your gut! Your intuition is wiser than we give it credit for.
