Do you really need that dynamite?

When it comes to transitions, it’s helpful to know whether you need to make a 3° shift or a full 180° pivot before taking a jump and making a change.

A client came to me because they were contemplating whether they wanted to “blow it all up”. They were thinking about quitting their job, leaving the Bike Industry, selling their house, and moving to a different state. If they went for it, it’d be quite the shake-up, and once committed, it’d be a difficult course to reverse.

Our first step was slowing things down and shifting their mindset to one of discovery and curiosity. This created the space for them to focus on what gave them meaning, what drained them, how they had separated from their purpose, and who could support them in rediscovering it.

So what happened? Their impatience softened, and the path became clear. After 6 sessions, this client felt like themselves again, had better self-awareness for what they needed to thrive in their current role, and decided that they didn’t want to blow things up after all. Four months later, they’re crushing it at work and are finding more meaning than ever.

Moral of the story: sometimes dynamite is helpful, but sometimes all you need is a fresh perspective, a new set of tools, and a small shift to get you back on track.
